Liangping County and Center Plan Elementary School | September 2009
The China – U.S. Center and Liangping County in rural Chongqing Municipality have signed a letter of intent for the design, construction and operation of a new elementary school in Jindai Township. The school – to be designed on the principles of safe, sustainable, cost-effective and scalable – will replace a school severely damaged in the May 12, 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake.
Rural Liangping County, on the Sichuan Province border, was the most severely damaged county in Chongqing. The County government is led by Governor Dai Xiaohong. Madame Dai has been directly involved in key discussions for the new school along with the Chongqing Municipal and Liangping County educational bureaus. As part of its contribution to the school, Liangping County Government will provide a parcel of public use land for the new school.
The school will be designed and built in accordance with the new national standards for rural schools adopted by the Ministry of Education in December 2008. The goal is for the school to be operational by mid 2011.
