Bill McDonough Opens the Meeting

Hosted by Theodore Roosevelt IV at the Headquarters of Lehman Brothers in New York City, US and international members of the Board of Councilors met on December 14, 2007 to review existing projects and explore future initiatives. William A. McDonough chaired the meeting which included Board Members participating by on line meeting and teleconference from Asia, Europe and US locations.

The Board reviewed both the challenges and the opportunities for the Center to play a more active role in addressing climate change, reducing energy consumption and expanding renewable energy alternatives in China and internationally. The Board formed a working group on energy efficiency chaired by Gary Dirks, Chief Executive of BP Asia, and a solar working group chaired by Bob Shaw, President of Aretê Corporation.

The Board also agreed on the importance of continuing to support efforts to improve the social, economic and environmental quality of China’s countryside and established working groups on enterprise development and education.

Along with addressing operational and financial matters, the Board formed a working group to address the organizational development of the Center. Ted Roosevelt and Gary Dirks were joined by John Duggan, Chairman of Gazeley, Ltd., and Allan Smith, Vice President, European Marketing, R & D, and Global Environmental Strategy & Programs for Steelcase, Inc., to develop a leadership structure for the US-International Board.
