Center Co-Hosts Shanghai International Business Forum | June 2006
At the invitation of the Shanghai Economic Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Foreign Experts, the China-U.S. Center for Sustainable Development co-hosted the Ninth Annual Shanghai International Business Forum on June 15, 2006 at Le Meridien, She Shan Shanghai. Organized by the International Business and Technology Journal, the theme of this year’s Forum was “The Circular Economy and Business Development.”
The Forum was designed to share innovative approaches to building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society in light of the newly emerging concept of the circular economy. It provided a platform for industries and governments to exhibit circular economy-themed projects, as well as an opportunity for consultation and collaboration. Ms. Ren Wenyan, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and Chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce made the opening keynote address for China. John Duggan, Chairman of Gazeley, made a keynote address on the subject of “How can Business Create a Sustainable World.” Plenary presentations were also made by Baosteel, Shanghai Huayi Group, the Shanghai Economic Commission, B&Q China, Starbucks, HP, WSP Environmental and Intel.
The conference then moved to a series of lively working groups that each considered and made recommendations for actions around specific themes: green building technologies, water and clean manufacturing, energy and transportation, logistics and green consumption.
